Recording Options

Recording Options

Whether recording your gameplay or your streaming session you will have to get to know your Recording Options so that you get the best quality possible.  Options here are again Automatic and Custom. If you don't know what to do you can always stick to Automatic options but for better experience and quality I recommend switching to Custom.

Don't forget to change your recording destination/directory or by the default your recordings will go to your (C:) drive.

Resolution can be set from 360p up to 2160p Ultra HD (4K) but performance will depend on your hardware configuration and capability so don't set anything higher than your machine can handle.

The most important part is setting you Codec. Switching from Auto to Custom may result in different Codec settings from your Streaming options so make sure to set the exact same Codec for both streaming and recording. Otherwise your recordings may not be playable or in some cases you will get only black screen.

Choosing the best Codec will depend on your configuration again. If you have powerful enough CPU you can use x264 or if your GPU is better you might want to select AMD VCE for AMD or NVIDIA NVENC for all NVIDIA cards.

Codec Preset - for AMD there is no preset. For NVIDIA there are many options. Selecting "High Quality" is best but if it maxes out your GPU you might want to lower it. So experiment and make a few tests to find out which result is best for you.

Frame rate can be set to 30 fps or 60 fps. It mostly depends on your computer configuration. If you cover the minimum requirements: 4th Generation Core i5 or equivalent; GeForce / Radeon Class (DirectX 10.1 compatible or better); at least 8GB RAM you can go ahead and select 60 fps. But not every machine is the same so if you experience any lag you might want to switch to 30 fps.

Quality - from Standard to Ultra High. Choosing a higher setting will render the best quality but will use more resources.

Audio Bitrate - Options here are from 96 to 192. The higher bitrate the better.

Audio Format - Stereo or Mono. It depends on how you want the audio for your stream to be perceived.

As in the Streaming Options here you can also Split Recordings by size or by duration and you can enable Multi-track Audio. This option will separate your microphone and system audio into two tracks which is useful for later editing your recordings.
